Is a game bundle worth it? Five checks before you pay

Three Humble bundles are running this week, and the headline numbers are loud. One bundle page says its games would cost “as much as $149 if bought full price”, and the top tier costs $13. On paper that is about 91% off. But a bundle is one of the few places where the printed discount tells you almost nothing, because the number that matters is not the total. It is the price of the games you would actually play.

Here is a way to work that out in five minutes, with this week’s bundles as worked examples.

One bundle, three tiers: what each tier costs per game The Humble Triple-i bundle. Tier 1 costs $8 for 2 games, $4.00 per game. Tier 2 costs $10 for 5 games, $2.00 per game. Tier 3 costs $13 for 8 games, $1.63 per game. Going from tier 1 to tier 2 adds 3 games for $2 more, and going from tier 2 to tier 3 adds 3 games for $3 more. Humble Triple-i bundle: what each tier costs per game Tier 1 $8 2 games Tier 2 $10 5 games Tier 3 $13 8 games $4.00 per game $2.00 per game $1.63 per game Tier 1 to 2: +$2 buys 3 more games ($0.67 each) Tier 2 to 3: +$3 buys 3 more games ($1.00 each)

The three bundles this week

Bundle Tier prices Games in total, per tier Ends Keys
Twisted Trilogies and Terrors (dark visual novels) $12 / $15 / $20 3 / 6 / 9 October 31, 2026 Steam, redeem before April 30, 2027
Gals and Pals (11 PQube games) $6 / $9 / $12 4 / 8 / 11 October 31, 2026 Steam, redeem before April 30, 2027
Triple-i Initiative Showcase $8 / $10 / $13 2 / 5 / 8 October 28, 2026 Steam, redeem by late April 2027 (the listing gives both April 28 and April 29)

In the Twisted Trilogies and Triple-i listings, a higher tier adds games on top of the lower ones. For Gals and Pals the listing gives the same kind of split, 4 + 4 + 3 games, and we count it the same way. The listings we read are from trade sites, not from Humble itself (see “What we did not check” below).

Why “worth $149” tells you little

A bundle page adds up the list prices of every game inside. That total says what the games would cost if you bought each at its full price. It does not say what they cost in a normal week, or what they cost in the cheapest week. We covered the same trap for single games in our guide to real and fake discounts: a percentage is only as honest as the price it is measured against.

So set the big number aside and work with two smaller ones.

The number that matters: price per game

Divide each tier’s price by the number of games it gives you. Then do the same for each step up: the extra money you pay for the next tier, divided by the extra games it adds.

Bundle Tier You pay Games Per game Step up from the tier below
Triple-i 1 $8 2 $4.00
2 $10 5 $2.00 +$2 for 3 games ($0.67 each)
3 $13 8 $1.63 +$3 for 3 games ($1.00 each)
Twisted Trilogies 1 $12 3 $4.00
2 $15 6 $2.50 +$3 for 3 games ($1.00 each)
3 $20 9 $2.22 +$5 for 3 games ($1.67 each)
Gals and Pals 1 $6 4 $1.50
2 $9 8 $1.13 +$3 for 4 games ($0.75 each)
3 $12 11 $1.09 +$3 for 3 games ($1.00 each)

Two things stand out.

Now the part the table cannot show: count only the games you would play. If you want three of the nine games and they sit in different tiers, you pay for the highest tier you need. In Twisted Trilogies, the three Spirit Hunter games are listed only in the $20 tier. If they are the reason you are here, you pay $20 for three games you want, about $6.67 each, and the other six are a bonus you may never open.

The simple rule: tier price divided by the games you would actually play. If that number is more than you would pay for those games on their own, skip the bundle.

A countdown is not a reason

These bundles end on October 28 and 31. A deadline is a reason to decide, not a reason to buy. Ask yourself: would I buy this game alone for $4? If the answer is no, then $1 is not a bargain, it is one more game in the backlog.

What about the charity part?

The Triple-i listing says a portion of each purchase supports Gamers Outreach, and does not say how much. The other two listings we read do not mention charity. Because we could not read Humble’s own pages, we cannot tell you how a payment is split between the publishers, a charity and Humble. If that matters to you, check it on the bundle page before you pay.

Five questions before you buy a bundle

  1. Which games here would I actually play?
  2. Which tier holds them, and what is the price per game I would play?
  3. What would I pay for them alone in a normal week? A price-history tracker shows that. Our five questions for sale prices apply to bundles too.
  4. Do the keys fit? Platform, region and redeem date.
  5. Would I still buy it if there were no countdown?
